"Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential."
Venturing
Venturing is part of the Boy Scouts of America, designed to be a co-ed program for young men and women between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one. Venturing encourages adventure, leadership, personal growth, and service in a fun and educational setting.
Unlike Boy Scouts, Venturing does not have merit badges. Venturers have four rank advancements: Venture, Discover, Pathfinder, and Summit.
The Summit Award is equivalent to the Boy Scout Eagle Award and, like the Eagle, the Summit Award requires a project that tests the Venture Scout's leadership and organizational abilities.

Finished!
Mechanical
The AC unit was mounted in the wall of the cooler, and the CoolBot was easily installed near the AC unit.
Insulation
A master electrician volunteered his time to wire a light, a switch, and two outlets to provide the AC unit and the CoolBot with power.
We used two layers of two inch thick foam board insulation, cutting eight foot by four foot panels to fit in between wall studs. The second layer was glued and nailed in place, then sealed with insulation tape.

Roof
Roofing took place the same day the walls were installed. Scouts cut and measured shingles.  No rain and no mud made the job go much faster!
Walls
Construction and installation of the walls took an entire day.  The walls were pre-fabricated by an excited team of Scouts and transported to the food bank on a trailer.
Foundation
The first step of the building process, the foundation was installed in four hours on a rainy Saturday. The building crew sank cinder blocks to account for the uneven terrain and insulation was stapled between floor joists.
The Greater Urbana Area Food Bank's
WALK-INÂ COOLER
SUMMIT PROJECT
Greetings! My name is Julia and I am a Venture Scout from Venture Crew 796, Ijamsville, Maryland.
The Greater Urbana Area Food Bank supplies around 220 families with food on a regular basis, and some of this food requires refrigeration (e.g. eggs, meats, cheese, turkeys during the holidays).
In October 2017, the Greater Urbana Area Food Bank asked me to build a walk-in cooler valued at $3,500, which was completed December 2017.
